Gaines Point is located on the shores of Green Lake, which is north of Downtown Seattle. In 1926, the body of 22 year-old Sylvia Gaines was found by a carpenter who was on his way to work. Gaines had been strangled, and her head had been struck repeatedly by a blunt object, later determined to be a rock.

While we had no concrete reports of hauntings specifically relating to her murder, ghost stories associated with the lake are common, and often involve an apparition of a young woman. So, in our quest to investigate the reported activity, Gaines Point seemed like a logical place to start.

For a more detailed history of the events at Gaines Point, and the murder of Miss Gaines, please see our article in the Ghost Stories section.

This was the first EVP captured during the investigation. Listen VERY carefully to the backgroud, it sounds as if someone is crying. The wind was going that night, but at no other time did we capture that sound.

I think someone's trying to say an investigator talks too much. ;)

One of the investigators asks "Ms. Gaines, are you here?", after which a faint answer is heard. Note, I can be heard afterward, noting a spike on the Trifield coinciding with the apparent response.

Just as we were leaving Gaines Point to meet up with the additional investigators, Gen is talking about the trifield's behavior. She can be heard saying "but, no." Shortly afterward, a whisper is heard which seems to say "Ryan". At the end of the clip, another investigator is heard talking on the phone to those whom we were meeting.

Here's an enhanced clip of the above capture.

This was captured on the trail between Gaines Point and the parking lot, after going to meet up other investigators who were joining us. The possible anomaly is around the 8 second mark of the clip.

There's an interesting story behind this one. Long before we investigated this location, my wife and I had a personal experience in the area. We were taking a walk around the lake, as we sometimes did, and along the way we were startled by a small black shape that seemed to come up out of the water, and move across the path towards some trees. It was a good 20' or more in front of us, so we pretty much assumed it was probably a small plastic bag blowing across the trail or something easily explainable like that.

Two years or so later, during the Green Lake investigation we captured this. Afterwards, I was able to determine that the location of this recording was in that same general area where we saw the shape.

In researching the lake, I stumbled upon this forum posting at http://forums.hmoob.com/archive/index.php?t-596.html:

It's close to the bottom, posted by user "2hur", in which he tells the story of his younger brother being followed home by a "hairy black shadow" after fishing on Green Lake. It's not conclusive proof, by any means, but it's interesting to think about, if nothing else.

2008: New Green Lake Audio!

Not too long ago, Gen and I made another trip to Gaines Point. We decided to run some audio, just to see if anyone had anything to say. We captured the following clips:

I can't make out what's being said here, but this was captured just as we arrived.

This is as close to a Class A as I've ever captured. Gen can be heard saying "we're getting some big jumps" (on the Trifield), shortly afterward a voice says "thank you". There were some people on the trail about 30 feet or so away, but this was obviously much closer to the mic than they were.

Here's the capture by itself.

These are the photos we captured that night. Normally, I'm not one for "orb" photos, but I wanted to include these simply because the object in the photos is both brighter and more dense than the typical "orbs" that are commonly photographed. It's probably not paranormal, but in light of the object's apprearence, coupled with everything that went on that night, I thought it might be interesting to include them.

Note: none of these objects were visible in the camera's LCD screen at the time the photos were taken.
